April 2017 Revival Rehearsed reading – Stags and Hens

A rehearsed reading by Southside Players, performed by (most of) the cast from the 1992 production on Saturday 1st April 2017, starting at 5pm.

As part of our 30th anniversary celebrations, we are proud to present this drink-fuelled comedy of wedding-eve angst, first performed by Southside at St Luke’s Church Hall in Ramsden Road. The hall was demolished some years ago – but the actors are still going strong!

This hilarious comedy by Willy Russell is set in the gents and ladies loos of a decidedly downmarket Liverpool club. Dave and Linda are to be married on the morrow, but what neither of them realise is that they are holding their stag and hen parties in the same venue.

Dave, legless after downing an evil mix of drinks, enjoys a pleasant evening with his head in the toilet, while his mates act out the typically desperate behaviours of working lads on a big night out. Meanwhile in the ladies, the bride-to-be and her pals are by turns sentimental and cynical about the whole love and marriage thing. Drama rears its head when Linda discovers an ex-lover, Peter, is on the premises…

This rehearsed reading and the original production both directed by Aidan Steer.

The reading will be followed by a food and drinks evening to welcome in the start of Southside’s 30th year celebrations.
